Bringing the Gift of Holiday Cheer to Needy Seniors in Our Community

In 2015 we brought Joy to over 1000 Needy Seniors.

Let’s beat that in 2016!

What is the “Be a Santa to a Senior” Program?

Home Instead Senior Care is the sponsor of an annual program titled “Be a Santa to a Senior”.  The initiative is designed to bring smiles and joy to seniors who might not have a pleasant holiday because of financial limitations or because they are socially isolated.

Hundreds of gifts will be donated and delivered to needy seniors in the S. Sarasota County area.  Some past recipients include Emeritus, Bay Breeze, Pine Brook Rehab, Manor Care, Quality Healthcare, Meals on Wheels recipients and many more.

Santa Needs You!  This community service program positively impacts the community and its residents by providing holiday cheer and gift giving to those financially needy and lonely.

Loneliness and Poverty Leave Seniors Wanting – The Santa Program Provides Help!

Local Seniors are struggling.  Some seniors face high medical bills and cost of living.  Ten percent of U.S. seniors are living in poverty.  Many seniors are alone with no family or friends nearby and 24.7% of seniors are widowed.  The Be a Santa to a Senior program is designed to bring both gifts and companionship, stimulating human contact and social interaction.

How does the Be a Santa to a Senior program work?

1.    Nonprofits and social workers identify needy local seniors.

2.   Christmas trees, wreaths or garlands with senior wishes go up in participating stores, service locations or communities.

3.   Local residents pick up an ornament with senior wishes on it and return the requested, personalized gift to the location.

4.   Home Instead Senior Care enlists volunteers to help in gift pick up and distribution as well as caroling and holiday cheer.

Thousands of gifts will be donated and delivered to needy seniors in the S. Sarasota County area.  Some past sources for these needy services include Emeritus, Bay Breeze, Pine Brook Rehab, Manor Care, Quality Healthcare, Meals on Wheels recipients, Senior Friendship Center, Salvation Army, Jewish Children & Family Services, Lutheran Services, The Medicaid waiver program, and many more.
